Crockett Gillespie Died Tuesday Night
Crockett Gillespie, 41 years old, died
Who lived on the T. J. Rowlen farm, four miles southeast of Jones City, died Tuesday night. He was taken sick Tuesday morning while working with Roy Benson's threshing outfit on the A. M. Maxey farm and was taken to his home. Dr. Wood was called and it was found that the sick man was suffering from an intestinal abscess which had gotten beyond control, and nothing could be done except to relieve the pain. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Thursday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Scarey officiating. Interment was made in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Crocket Gillespie was an honest hardworking man. He had been a resident of this section since shortly after the opening of the country, and was known all over this part of the county. His wife preceded him to the grave several years ago. He leaves four children, several brothers and sisters, and many friends to mourn his death.

CROCKETT GILLESPIE CHAMPION SPRINTER
Crock Gillespie, who has been working for Jeff Rowlen, east of town, is the champion sprinter of the state. Saturday evening after he had finished his day's work at Rowlen's he started home, and while passing the Manwell house he heard a noise behind him, and as it was dark, when he looked back he could see nothing. He could hear the peculiar noise however, and started to run. After making the mile to Bob McEwen's corner, he recognized the "he-haw" as being the voice of one of Rowlen's mules which had playfully followed him in his mad flight. Crock then sat down by the roadside and talked it over with the mule and they parted good friends. Crock looks rather pale yet over the experience.
