DARLINGTON CITIZEN DEAD.
James Edward Gillespie, mention of whose illness has been made in these columns from time to time, died at his home in Darlington last Sunday morning. He apparently died without suffering, as when a member of the family went to waken him he was found dead. Mr. Gillespie was born near Ellenora, Mo., October 13, 1855 and departed this life at his home in Darlington, Mo., July 27, 1924, aged 68 years, 9 months and 14 days. Mr. Gillespie was married to Miss Rebecca Ellen Gillespie at Albany, Mo., December 30, 1880. To this union were born four children; Fred C., Mrs. Bertha Lee Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Emma Lois Roberts and Mrs. Oletha Ruth Shelby, all of Darlington. Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie reared Albia {Alba} M. Gillespie, a nephew. He also had 5 grandchildren. Mr. Gillespie had brothers and sisters. All but two have preceded him in death---Harvey H., of Darlington, and Mrs. Benson of Jones City, Oklahoma, together with the companion and the four children and many relatives mourn his loss. About 5 months ago, Mr. Gillespie suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never fully recovered. Yet, lately, with assistance, he was able to visit in the country, returning to his home last Saturday and early Sunday he suddenly passed away. Mr. Gillespie was born and reared in Gentry county, and spent his life here, except when a young man he spent 8 months in the west. He was 1 a resident of Darlington for the last -26 years. He was a good citizen and he loved his family. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Darlington July 29, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. C. Bridenthal, of the Christian church in Albany, assisted by M. H. Jordan, pastor of the M. E. church in Darlington. Interment took place at the Rouse cemetery. Mr. Gillespie was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, No. 506 of Darlington. His brethren took charge of the services at the grave, and appropriately and tenderly laid his body away to rest. The members of the family have the sympathy of the entire community in this their time of sadness.
