Mabel Annette Barber

Mabel Annette Barber was born May 7, 1910, and passed away on Nov. 22, 2005. She spent her entire 95 years in Arizona after being born in a buckboard wagon when Arizona was still a territory. Her family was moving from Camp Verde to Flagstaff for her father's new job, and she was born along the way near the top of Snebley Hill not far from Munds Park.

Mabel was born to Grace (Wallingford) and Paul Peabody and had two older brothers, Gerald and Ralph. She later had two more brothers Howard and Norman, all of whom are deceased. Mabel grew up in the Verde Valley and the Prescott, Chino Valley area.

She married her husband, Owen Barber, in 1931 and they had 35 years together. After his death in 1966, she lived in Miller Valley at the family home until she moved to Spring Valley in 1978. She lived in Spring Valley until 2001, when she moved to her daughter's in Dewey, and resided there until her death.

Surviving Mabel are three children and spouses, Betty Ingram, Albert (Merlynn) Barber and Norma (Dean) Tatum; and eight grandchildren, Lou Anne, Kent, Vicki, Melanie and Owen Barber, Terry Gray and Grady and Cody Busse; two grandchildren, Louis and Sherry Willis are deceased. She also has 20 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial will be held on Nov. 29th, at the Mountain View Cemetery at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

For those who wish to stay a while and visit, there will be a gathering at 10817 Turquoise Circle, Prescott Country Club. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Our Mom will be missed by all of us who knew this feisty, independent "one-of-a-kind" lady. We shall meet again one day and the circle will be unbroken.

Arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home. All friends and relatives are encouraged to visit www.sunrisefuneralhome.com for additional information and to sign the online guest book.
