Virginia was the daughter of Wyman and Helen (Brendel) Sanford. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Surviving are her husband Robert, and four daughters Anne M Flahaven, Terry Hillman, Victoria J Schieve and Rebecca Thompson. Her son Steven Paul Gobler, preceded her in 1976. Also surviving are sisters Evelyn Seeterlin and Donna Wilson.

Virginia spent many hours researching her family history. She was a wonderful seamstress and quilter. She loved reading and playing the piano.
