Smith, William Clarence "Smitty" "Shorty" "Sunk", who was 94 years young and the last survivor of the Pearl Lee Smith family; a Blount County native; and a member of Salem Baptist Church, departed this earth February 8, 2007. He lived an extensive, gratifying, and rewarding life that included farming, hunting, fishing, retiring from ALCOA, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wives, Lovera Cora Huff Smith and Mary Margaret McClurg Harveston Smith; parents, Bertie and Pearl Smith; adored brother, Frank Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Frank Huff; Alice and Clifford Presley; and Elizabeth and JT Williams; nephew, Jack Huff; and dear friend, Clarence Crye. Survivors with lingering memories include step-children, Louise Smith of Tacoma, WA; Mary Ola Ennis of Cordova, TN; Peggy Cronan of Ranger, GA; Paul Harveston, Jr. of Louisville; and Ed Harveston of Alcoa; numerous nieces and nephews, Bobbie Glisson of Knoxville; Bruce Presley of Mathis, TX; Anna Marie Deri and Janice Owens of Maryville; Neal Williams of Louisville; Lois Williams of Wildwood; and Allen Williams of Knoxville; cousins, "The George Boys" and Nancy Brown; a host of friends that include Bonnie Crye, Brooks and Norma Porter, Jim Bivens, Albert and Wilma Myers, Becky and Bud Davis, Don and Bobbie French and others. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Fred Self and Rev. Chris Boruff officiating with Interment to follow at Ballard's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray Porter, Stanley Crye, Wayne Brown, Ed Harveston, and Allen, Mark, and Neal Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be "The George Boys", Don French, and Brooks Porter. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church, Old Ballards Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or your favorite charity in behalf of W.C. Smith. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville.
