Four of the boys came to Grand Rapids because Louis established a trading post and built a house here. Toussaint, George and Antoine came to also work as traders with the Indians and bought large tracts of land. After Louis' first wife Anna died, he married Sohpie Marsac and brought her from Detroit to Grand Rapids. She only spoke French, so she invited her sister Emily to come keep her company, and Emily fell in love with Toussaint and married him.
After his father Louis died, Louis Jr. must have moved his mother Therese here from Detroit because she lived to be age 94 and is living with him and his wife Sophia on the 1850 and 1860 census.
