Helen was born to William J and Helen P Brendel in White Lake Township, Michigan. She attended Milford Schools, and furthered her education receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern Michigan University, and then received her Master of Social Work from Wayne University. Helen attained these degrees while raising her 3 daughters, and teaching school in Waterford. She then worked for Oakland Schools for 21 years, receiving an award signed by Govenor George Romney for her work in Vocational Rehabilitation. Her role in aiding handicapped children over the years who had vocational limitations, was rewarded by the many friendships that she maintained upon her retirement. Helen spent her retirement years volunteering in many ways, and always helping her daughters with the 18 grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to all who knew her.
