Alexander Tedford Barclay was married 3 times. First to Agnes Nancy McClanahan Poague, then Mary Stuart Moffett (above) in 1826 and third, to Mary Eleanor Paxton, on 21 Mar 1833.
In the Feb 2011 photo, her above ground crypt is seen directly in front of her husband, Alexander's tall obelisk (monument).
"DIED. In Rockbridge co. on the 6th inst. Mrs. Mary Barclay, wife of Mr Alexander T. Barclay. She was an exemplary member of the Presbyterian, Church;..." Published in the Visitor and Telegraph (Virginia), Vol 8, #50, 12 Dec 1829 (see photo).

SACRED

POLLY STUART BARCLAY,
Wife of Alexander T. Barclay,
who was born July 4th 1802,
and departed this life Decr. 6th 1829.
See husband's site for a colorful plot map added in 2/2018 by HWH. Before Mary Alexander, he sold his land that included the Red Mill. The caption reads: "The 2 brown plats were owned by Hugh Barclay in the 1700's. Alexander T. Barclay sold the 421 acre tract closer to the Natural Bridge called The Red Mill Tract to John Waskey in 1823 for $7,000." Thomas Jefferson owned the plot next to the Barclay plot, which included the rock or natural bridge, that the county is named for. Other names in the deed description were Robt Irvine, Jos Cloyd, Andrew Reid, Robt Douthat, Robt Gilmore and Jno Galbreath.
My kin saved a 23 Nov 1848 Valley Star, Lexington, VA newspaper for a brother's obit, plus for her kin Mary, who was a wife of Alexander T. Barclay. His estate sale is also listed in it. I posted a photo of part of the sale and transcribed it on his site, in the photo caption. The article took up the entire right side of the paper.
