Maude was born on the first day of Spring in 1927 in Lake City, South Carolina, to Alex Blakely Lamb and Mettie Nettles Lamb. She was the 7th of 15 children of a farming family.
Maude was a 1944 graduate of Lake City High School. Prior to her marriage in 1946, she moved to Georgetown and was employed by International Paper Company. She also worked as Church Hostess for First Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida, and owned a catering business. Maude was a wonderful cook, but more importantly, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown. She was a member of the Williams Sunday School Class and Young as Ever.
She was married to John Herlone Tuten for almost sixty years. Maude is survived by: her husband; her son, Alec Herlone Tuten and his wife Marcia of Georgetown; her daughter, Claire Tuten Manning and her husband Frank of Columbia; grandchildren, Marci Tuten Greci and her husband Mike of Concord, North Carolina, Ann-Lamar Tuten and her fiance Shawn Brodersen of Jacksonville, Florida, Blakely Tuten of Georgetown, Jeff Manning and Jessica Manning, both of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Michael Headrick and Clarissa Headrick of Georgetown; two of her 14 siblings, Christine Lamb Grogg and her husband John and Anne Lamb Matthews, all of Columbia; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006, at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church in Georgetown. The burial will be private.
