Marguerite Haring, Monsey native

Funeral services were planned to day for Marguerite Blanche Requa Haring, a former Monsey resident who died Sunday of natural causes at Wiersmas Nursing Home in Allendale, New Jersey. She was 92.

Born in Monsey on January 13, 1890, she was the daughter of James [Should have been John] Edgar Requa and Jennie Snider.

A 1910 graduate of Suffern High School, and a 1914 graduate of Oneonta State Teachers College, she had lived in Ridgewood since 1922, residing at 569 Northern Parkway.

The Requa family was among the French Huguenots who settled in New Rochelle in the late 1600s. Her grandfather was the owner of Glode Requa Coal and Lumber Co. in Monsey.

Her husband, James Smith Haring III, died in June 1965, and a son, Robert Tracy Haring, died in March, 1975.

She is survived by one son, James Smith Haring, IV; two daughters, Elizabeth Nurmi of Provo, Utah and Marguerite Amore of Ramsey, New Jersey; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were planned today at 1:30 p.m. at the Sniffen Funeral Home, Route 59, Spring Valley. Burial was to follow at the family plot at Brick Church Cemetery in Monsey.

MARGUERITE REQUA HARING, 92, of Ridgewood, died Sunday.

She was a teacher at Airmont School in Tallman, New York before retiring and a graduate of Oneonta (New York) State College.

Surviving are a son, James IV, of Harriman, New York, two daughters, Elizabeth Nurmi of Provo, Utah, and Marguerite Amore of Ramsey, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, James III, died in 1965.

Services were yesterday, with burial at West New Hempstead Cemetery, Monsey, New York.

A Sweet and Caring Woman

Marguerite Blanch Requa was born on January 13, 1890 in Monsey, Rockland County, New York.

Her parents were John Edgar "Edgar" 1865-1901 Requa and Jennie Snider 1868-1936. She was the second daughter and third child to this couple.

Her father died unexpectedly when she was 11 years old. He had been in charge of Requa Coal and Lumber, an ongoing business that his grandfather had started. Her mother was pregnant with the 7th child when Edgar died.

The family was raised in Monsey, Rockland County, New York. Her mother owned an Ice Cream Shop that was quite a popular spot for the residents in Monsey.

Blanch attended Oneonta State University located in Oneonta, Otsego County, New York. She graduated on Wednesday, June 21, 1916 with her teaching degree.

Soon after, on December 20, 1916 she married James Smith Haring 3rd at Spring Valley, Rockland County, New York.

She resided on Kenilworth Road in Ridgewood, New Jersey in 1930. James was studying to be a Civil Engineer following in his father's footsteps at Carnegie Mellon [Now called Carnegie Tech]

The couple had four children:

Elizabeth Barrow Haring - 1921-2000
Marguerite Blanche Haring - 1925-2010
Robert Tracy Haring - 1926-1975

She died at the age of 92 at Weirsma Nursing Home in Allendale, New Jersey.
