Henry was the husband of Emily S. (Hood) Morris (1838-1896). They were married on October 9, 1856 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Henry's second wife was Mary Catherine (Bagley) Henderson Morris (1854-1931). Henry and Mary were married on June 10, 1900 in Grand River, Wayne County, Iowa. Henry was a Civil War Veteran of the Union Army, Co. K, 7th Missouri State Militia Cavalry. He was a member of GAR, Post No. 237. He enlisted in Company G, 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry on April 1, 1862 and was transferred to Co. K, 7th Missouri State Militia Cavalry after December 31, 1862 when the 3rd became the 7th. He was mustered out on April 3, 1865 after three years of service. Henry was wounded at Warrensburg, Missouri on June 10, 1864, but was present on the roll call for September and October 1864 and fought at the Battle of Mine Creek on October 25, 1864. Henry's younger brother, James B. Morris, also fought in the same company and regiment as Henry.


Henry was a father of 7 children and 7 step-children. His children with Emily (Hood) Morris were: Eva, Amanda, Perry, Hattie, Emily, Adelaide and Odie Lee Morris. Henry was the son of Hugh Morris and Cassiah Nancy Ralya and brother of Rachel (Morris) Wescott (1835-1916) and James Bartlett Morris (1836-1919) and the half-brother of Mark Morris (1830-1914).


Henry was known in the Lineville area as "Uncle Henry." He lived to over 100 years old. His grandfather, David Ralya, of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, was a Revolutionary War patriot.

Gravesite Details

There is no actual headstone currently for Henry P. Morris. He is buried in Lot 20, Block 2, but the small marker that may have his headstone, or the headstone for his second wife, Mary, has been broken off.
