Josiah was born and raised on a farm located just North of Ceder Hill Cemetery in Harrison County, Indiana. The original log cabin was off of what is now Bridget Dr. The family moved down the hill toward Indian Creek into a larger house. Later, the log cabin was modernized and remains today, although it appears to be a more modern home. The outside was redone over the logs, an indoor bathroom was added, and water was piped in.
He married Annie Laurie Lord on September 16, 1903.
His one daughter, Louisa Fern, was named after Louisa Ida (Mauck) Gilmore, Annie Laurie's maternal grandmother. Fern married first Maxwell Delmont Cook on Sept. 1, 1927 in Malden Mass. After his death in 1930 she married Clarence Edward Boley.
