James Loren Raley, 84, of 303 W. 6th, College Place, died to day in a local hospital.
He was born May 8, 1889 in Echo, Ore., one of seven children of Winnie Belle and Benjamin Raley. His parents farmed in the eastern Oregon and Washington country. Raley followed his father's occupation during most of his lifetime. He attended Walla Walla College. During his life he was devoted to the mission activities of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He was married on Oct. 8, 1918 to Charlotte Robbins. His wife preceded him in death in 1924. He married again in 1929 to Lillian Barager, who served in various nursing posts at the Walla Walla General Hospital, retiring in 1958 as director of nursing. During this time Raley owned and operated several farms in the area, finally retiring in College Place in 1963. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lillian; his son Elton of Vancouver, Wash., and his daughter, Kathryn Garson of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, William C. Raley of College Place and Harry L. Raley of Auburn, Wash.; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday Nov. 16 at the Colonial Funeral Home with Elder Nevins M. Harlan officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends who wish may contribute to the Voice of Prophecy.
