PERRYTON - Kenneth R. Hocking, 87, died Friday, May 1, 2009.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ed Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Kenneth was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Catesby, Okla. He had lived in the area since 1944, moving from Riverside, Calif.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Perryton, past president of Ochiltree Farm Bureau and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He also was on Ochiltree County Hospital Board for nine years.

He was on the administrative board and chair member of First United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Friendship Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church.

He married Ruby Thrasher on July 3, 1943, in Booker. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Stephen Hocking, in 1954.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hocking; two daughters, Jan Johnson of Euless and Denise Sammons and husband Ellis of South Lake; two grandsons, Braden Johnson of Austin and Michael Sammons of Fort Worth; and a granddaughter, Lori Sammons of Panama City Beach, Fla.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 987, Perryton, TX 79070; or a favorite charity.
