Stephen Byron Shear was born December 22 ,1797 in Coeymans, Albany County, New York.
Son of Peter Shear and Rachel (Lasee) Shear

Married Geritje TenEyck in 1818
They moved to Junius, near Seneca Falls, New York.

They were parents of 7 children:
1. Peter Shear
2. Garrita Shear who married Anson Lisk
3. Conrad Shear Fairfax, Virginia
4. Mary Shear who married Levi Lisk brother of Anson
5. John Shear
6. Jacob C Shear
7. Catherine Shear who married Ralph Hanson.

Stephen Shear was in attendence at the first meeting in Seneca Falls, NY of the sufferage movement held by Elizabeth Coady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. He was one of 32 male signers of the Declarations of Intent which were adopted at this meeting in 1841.
