Alva Louis/Lewis GROVES was born 7 Dec 1879 in Mount Moriah, Harrison County, Missouri to parents Daniel Harvey Groves (1844-1912) and Elizabeth Espy (1848-1938). Alva also had a nephew with the same name: Alva Lewis Groves (1899-1962). The nephew's parents names were Daniel Harvey Groves (Jr) (1874-1949) and Martha Groves (b. 1877).

Preceded in death by wives 1) Ella May Hunt (1889-1915) whom he married in November of 1904 in Lawton, Oklahoma and with whom he had two sons Olen and Glen. She died unexpectedly in 1915 and is buried in Elgin, Oklahoma. 2) Pollyanna Maxine Stafford (1893-1929) who he married in 1917, living in Quay, Oklahoma and then Greenwood, Franklin County, Nebraska until her untimely death 16 July 1929, and 3) Frances Blanche Hayes (1915-1954) who disappeared in 1954 in the company of James Franklin Phye out of Palm Springs, California. Children: Glen M (1908-1974)& Olen A. Groves(1906-2000), sons by Ella May Hunt; daughters - Alice Lorraine (Groves)Stout(1930-2000), Donald Dee Groves (1932-1950),Hazel Louise (Groves)Phelps (1933-2000), Doris Ann (Groves)(Shade)Nue (1939-2001), Audrey Karlene (Groves) Beaupre (1938-1995), Lorma Marie(Groves)Marcotte (1935-2015) & Ilene May(Groves)(Petty)Slaughter, daughters by Frances Blanche Hayes.

Alva's parents and many ancestors lived and died in Missouri. Alva moved to Oklahoma when he was 24, Colorado when he was 30, Back to Oklahoma at 35, and up to Franklin County Nebraska when he was in his 40's. After his second wife died in 1929, he met and married a 14 year old child, Frances Blanche Hayes, and they moved to Colorado where all of their 7 children were born. His two sons by his first marriage were 22 and 18 by this time. His oldest son, Olen was approached by Frances first, and he told her that at 22 he was too old to be dating a 14 year old. But that didn't stop his father who was 50. Alva was obviously attracted to much younger females his entire life.

Alva's siblings were: Mable Mary Groves (b. 1864), John William Groves (1865-1950), Susan Catherine Groves (1867-1952), Rosella Melissa Groves (1871-1872), Daniel Harvey Groves (jr)(1874-1949), Victoria Alice Groves (1880-1956), Myrtle "Mertie" Groves/Stewart (1883-1978), Bertha "Bertie" M. Groves/HUFF (1883-1961), Henry Melvin "Pete" Groves (1886-1983) and Mary Bell Groves (1889-1890).
