He was born September 20, 1898, at Newburg R.R.1, the son of Joseph and Effie Boyd Swartz. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Pauline Swartz; his mother; eight children, Clifford W. Swartz, U.S. Navy, Beatrice Swartz, Philadelphia, Mrs. Genevieve Porter, Shippensburg, Frank Swartz U.S. Army, John W. Swartz, Patricia A. Swartz, Ray Swartz and Carl R. Swartz all at home; four sisters Mrs. Oscar Book of Shippensburg, Mrs. Bruce Hockersmith, Shippensburg, Mrs. Frank Hensel of Mechanicsburg, and Mrs. Jacob Bashore, Newburg; and two brothers Joseph L. Swartz, U.S. Navy and Harry R. Swartz, U.S. Army. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M. Garfield Barbour funeral home with the Rev. M.R. Heiland officiating. Burial will be in Newville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the M. Garfield Barbour funeral home Tuesday evening.
