In 1860, Russell is found in Fayetteville, County GA as a merchant in town. The value of his personal estate was listed as $8000.00. He was not married. Russell enlisted on May 27, 1861, in Fayetteville, for the duration of the war. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the 10th Regiment, Ga Infantry.
The Civil War papers found for Russell vary in death date; one says June 13th 1864 and another shows him in Jackson Hospital in Richmond Va and dying on June 14th 1864. He buried unknown.

NOTE: There is much speculation about Simeon’s parents, but the generally accepted linage from several Strickland researchers is Wilson Strickland born on 14 Jan 1783 in Guilford, North Carolina, and died 10 Nov 1841 in Suwanee, Gwinnett, Georgia, and Mary Polly Connelly born in 1782 in Chapel Hill, Orange, North Carolina, and died 25 Feb 1840 in Suwanee, Gwinnett, Georgia.

Some researchers this Simeon as the son of Drury b 1778, son of David, son of Joseph, son of Matthew, fits census better – old Drury age 50-60 in 1830 Gwinnett Co., GA) (1840 Cobb Co., GA Census 112101-000001; 1850 Cobb Co., GA Census Coxes District, William Bates 49 with them)

This is not proved and here for research purposes.
