Elizabeth Stickland McConnell was born in Gwinnett County, GA. She was the daughter of a Methodist minister, the Rev. Simeon Stickland.

She married Isaac McConnell. After the Civil War ravaged Georgia, they moved to Texas, first to Johnson County about 1868 and then to Parker County, near Aledo about 1870.
