William Reeves Wilkinson was likely the first of three sons born to William Wilkinson (c.1793-7 Jan. 1870) and his first wife Lucy Reeves (1790s-1820) who were married in Rowan County, NC in 1814. William apparently was living with his two brothers in Mecklenburg Co. in 1840, and there he married Mary Amanda DeWeese (1824-1851) in 1841. Around 1845, they moved to Marion, McDowell County, NC, where William was listed on the 1850 census as a boot maker, with an apprentice shoemaker living in his household.

William and Mary Amanda had six children: Edward Wilkinson (born & died in 1842, buried at Ramah Presbyterian Church, Meck. Co.), William Wilkinson (c.1843, m. Nancy Chaney, went to Tennessee), Julia Wilkinson (c.1844-1887, m. Henry Michael Winecoff), Mary Adeline Wilkinson (1846-1906, m. John Andrew Field), John Wilkinson (c.1848), and Margaret Wilkinson (c.1850).

After Mary Amanda's death, William apparently returned to Mecklenburg County, where he married her younger sister, Nancy Adeline DeWeese (1827-1862) in 1852. They had three daughters, all born in South Carolina: Emily Wilkinson (c.1854), Lucy A. Wilkinson (1855-1936, m. James Morrison Irvin) and Cornelia Reeves Wilkinson (1857-1933, m. Victor Brent Turbyfill, 2nd m. John Thomas Barber).

By 1860, William had apparently died, and Nancy Adeline was living in Gaston Co., NC, with her widowed mother, her sister's 5 surviving children and her three daughters. I presume William died in Lancaster Co., SC, as that is where his father was living in 1860.
