OBITUARY:
One of Liberty Township's Most Highly Respected Citizens Died Last Friday: Mr. Anton Friedmann, one of the pioneer settlers of Liberty township died at the home of his son John Friedmann on april 203, 1901, of old age being eight-six years of age at the time of his death. Deceased was born near Rastadt, Baden, in Europe, in June, 1815, and at the age of twenty years came to America and first settled at Canton, Ohio, which was about 1835. he was united in marriage with Miss Elisabeth Wenzel at Ohio in June, 1843, and ten years after that moved to missouri, where they remained one year and in 1854 came to Iowa, and settled near Luxemburg, north of Dyersville where they made their permanent home. In 1893 they celebrated their golden wedding which was a happy event. his wife died June 6, 1895, and since then he resided with his son, John. Twelve children were born to them of whom seven survive. They are John of Luxemburg, joseph, William and Peter of Templeton and Roselle, mrs. Susan Reinert of Roselle, mrs. Lena Reinert of Minnesota and Mrs. pauline Heles of Worthington. All were present at the funeral with the exception of Peter and Mrs. John Reinert of Minnesota who could not possibly come. Mr. Anton Friedmann was one of Liberty township's most respected citizens, always a devoted husband and father, and as a neighbor always kind and obliging. The funeral took place last Friday morning and a large number of Sympathizing friends who attended attested that he was a popular gentleman. Solemn requiem mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul, in Holy Trinity church, by his grandson Rev. Father J.H. Friedmann of Worthington, assisted by Rev. Father Oberbroeckling as deacon, Father Schilmoeller as sub deacon and Rev. Father Pape as masters of ceremonies. After the requiem services, interment took place in the churchyard near by. May he rest in peace.
