Moses worked as a cabin boy on a vessal sailing the Great Lakes. He went to Port Huron which was a small Indian trading post. He worked in a saw mill at Clyde Mills on the Black River (Clyde Mills eventually became the town of Wadhams) It was there he met Eliza Dolly Goodwin and they were married in October 25, 1840 in St. Clair Co., Michigan.
