After his first wife, Hattie, passed away from pulmonary tuberculosis, Sherman married Ocie Irene Evans in July of 1923. Together, they had six children: twins, George Charles and William Dewey; Mary Allene; Elsie Irene; Betty Louise; and Osie Josephine (Jodi).
