THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, April 2, 1969:
Mrs. Ella Samantha Burton, 2255 W. Cherry St., widow of Joe Burton, died Tuesday at Lamar Medical Center after illness.
Daughter of Ben and Mary Jane (Tubbs) Tingle, she was born in Lamar County, May 28, 1880, she and Mr. Burton returning here in 1928 from Houston. He died in 1954.
Friends will be received Wednesday between 7:30 and 9 p.m. at Leverett & Steele funeral home, where service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be made at Hopewell. Relatives are at the home of Miss Thelma Hampton, 2300 Graham St.
Mrs. Burton leaves two children: Liston Burton, with whom she made her home and Mrs. Ruth Carter, also of Paris; 14 other descendants, and a sister here, Mrs. Minnie Hampton.

Burial rites for Mrs. Ella S. Burton, 88, were held Thursday at Hopewell after service in Paris at Leverett & Steele chapel, the Rev. Terrell Hill officiating.
The bearers were Alvin Moran, Sam Cox, Ernest Wright, Verdell Mathews, John Moody and G. W. Rhoades.
Widow of Joe Burton, Mrs. Burton, who lived here at 2255 W. Cherry St., died of illness Tuesday in a hospital here.
