Elmer "Raymond" CRAWFORD was the 8th of ll children born to Jasper Newton CRAWFORD and Abigail Serepta ROBBINS on 16 Sept 1878 in Fayette County, Iowa.


At age 30 he married Ruth E. McLELLAND (age 18) on 14 July 1909 at the residence of H. H. Horton in Columbus County, North Carolina.

To this union were born 3 children:
1) Annette CRAWFORD b. 13 Apr 1911 in New Mexico Territory; m. Brice ELVINGTON d. 23 Jan 1967 Chadbourn, Columbus County, NC; bur. 24 Jan 1967 Powell Cemetery, Fair Bluff, Columbus County, NC
2) Margaret Abigail CRAWFORD b. 1 June 1912 in Chadbourn, North Carolina; m. Dewey Wallace SOLES; d. 13 May 2009 at her home in Tabor City, Columbus County, North Carolina; bur. 17 Jan 2009 at Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City, NC
3) Elmer Raymond CRAWFORD, Jr. b. 26 May 1916 Shaw, Lincoln County, Colorado at the homestead of his Uncle Joe CRAWFORD; Elmer remained single; d. 30 Dec 1996 in Whiteville, Columbus County, NC; bur. Chadbourn Cemetery, Chadbourn, NC

By April 1900 they were living in Ingram, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. Ingram was located 12 miles north west of Elida and was a post office from 1907 to 1916. They returned to North Carolina were their second daughter was born. Between 1913 and 1916 they were living with Raymond's older brother Jasper Orcemus CRAWFORD on his homestead in Shaw, Lincoln County, Colorado. Elmer Jr. was born during their stay in Shaw. They left Shaw and moved to live by or near another of Raymond's brothers Francis Marion "Frank" CRAWFORD in Missouri, where Annette began school with her cousin Boyd. By 1920 they had moved back to Chadbourn and lived close by to his nephew John Lyle CRAWFORD. Raymond was a farmer in New Mexico and Colorado. He was a carpenter in North Carolina. Raymond lived out the remainder of his life in Chadbourn.

Raymond died 8 Apr 1956 in Columbus County, North Carolina. He is buried in Chadbourn Cemetery with his wife Ruth and son Elmer who never married.
