Arnoldus Bonneau was the son of William Henry Bonneau and Anna Maria Swinton. He was born in Lowndes County Alabama on 18 September 1841. When he was young, he moved to DeSoto Parish Louisiana with his family. Before the War the family moved back to Alabama. On 17 October, 1861 Arnoldus enlisted in the Confederate Army at Mobile, Alabama. He served in Company G, 24th. Regiment of the Alabama Infantry. He attained the rank of Corporal. On 6 May 1865 he was honorably discharged at High Point, North Carolina.

After the War Arnoldus Bonneau returned to Louisiana where he married Margaret Elizabeth Carroll, daughter of Madison Carroll and Elizabeth Boland. They were married in Natchitoches Parish Louisiana on 31 May 1870. They moved to Texas in 1878 where they raised their family which consisted of 6 children: Sally, Anna, Daisy, Florence, Madison, and Boland.

Margaret Elizabeth (Carroll) Bonneau was born 18 October 1852 in Louisiana and died 29 October 1926 in Sabine County, Texas. On 15 March 1930 Arnoldus married a second time to Joella "Ella" McElroy. She was the daughter of William Fowler McElroy and Sarah Catherine Ashmore. There were no children born to this marriage.

Arnoldus Bonneau died in Sabine County Texas on 8 March 1938 at the age of 96 years. He and his first wife, Margaret, are buried in Hemphill City Cemetery in Hemphill, Texas.
