Allen was the son of Willian Hirman Brasher and Elizabeth Long Brasher. He married Rachel Brasher and had 14 children, including John, Amanda, Martha, Hazeltine, James Baxter Brasher, Cornelius, Mary Jane, George, Susan and 4 who died as infants. Allen and brother Bailess Earle Brasher were farmers in Scott County, near the town of Waldron, Arkansas. Rachel died in April 1862.

In August 1862, Allen married Orlena McAnally. Their first child was born in 1863. When the Kansas Cavalry marched through Scott Co Arkansas in December 1863, Allen enlisted. He deserted in June 1864. It was planting time. Allen and Orlena had eight children: Thomas, Sarah, Francis, Matilda, Hiram, Florah and two who died as infants. Orlena died in July 1879.

Allen married Amanda Williams in the Fall of 1879. They had 5 children: Ethey, Julia, Scott and two who did as infants. Their fifth child (Scott) was born in March 1887. Allen died in December of that same year.
