There is a small grave between Athey and Scott. It is assumed to be that of Athey's first grandchild. This baby was born and died only a few months before Athey's death. This is one of 13 babies that Maude Burns Cox has buried in this cemetery.
SS
Many have wanted to put Athey's name as Mary Atheline. However, documents showing her name to be Mary have not been found. Her father's probate records show her name to be Atheline. Most other records show Athey. Her headstone has Ethey. In the family she was called "Athe" pronounced like "eighth"
It is possible the assumption of a first name Mary came from the 1900 census, which has her name as "Polly E Burns". While Polly was a common nickname for Mary, we should remember that Athey's father already had a daughter named Mary. (This Mary lived to be 96 years old.) It is hard to imagine that he would intentionally name 2 daughters the same name. However, If anyone is in possession of any documentation of her name being "Mary" please share it.

Ethey - wife of L E Bruns.
In love she lived
In peace she died
Her life was craved
But God denied.
The base of the stone says: BURNS
