Noah Duncan

Noah Duncan, 74, died Nov. 18, 1916 at his home. He lost his life in the house fire. It is believed that Mr. Duncan might have started the fire within the house by lighting a lamp which might have exploded enveloping him in flames before he could escape.

He was born Sept. 9, 1842 in Coshocton County, Ohio a son of John and Elizabeth Long Duncan. He came to Missouri in 1867. He served in the Union Army, Com. I 46th Div. Ohio Vol. Inf. He was a farmer. He married Jane Elizabeth Vanaman on March 6, 1873 near West Line. To this union seven daughters were born. Mr. Duncan was a member of the West Line Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death was his parents and a daughter, Luella Duncan, nine months old. Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Jane E. Duncan, and six daughters; Mrs. Ollie Rogers, Mrs. Ida Duncan, Mrs. Pauline Wilcox, Mrs. Cora Brown, Mrs. Nellie Davenport, and Mrs. Neva Davenport.

The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Davenport. The burial was in the Louisburg Cemetery, Louisburg, Kansas.
