LAURA K. DEY, 91

Laura K. Dey, 91, of Fort Calhoun, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Good Shepherd Home in Blair.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 19, at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
Laura K. Klahn was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Omaha to Herman and Ada Klahn. She grew up in Fort Calhoun and graduated from Fort Calhoun High School in 1935.
On Jan. 11, 1941, she married Carlos Dey. Mrs. Dey was a lifelong resident of Fort Calhoun.
She went to work for F. W. Woolworth in Omaha after graduation and worked there until she began traveling with her husband during World War II as he received orders to various military training assignments throughout the U.S.
She returned to Fort Calhoun when her husband was shipped overseas. She worked in Administrative positions in Omaha for a time, and worked for the Fort Calhoun School system for 13 years, retiring in 1980. She then decided to return to work part time, first for Dr. Byford Klein in Blair in 1981, and then for the Fort Calhoun State Bank (now TeamBank) in 1982. With 20 years of service to the bank, she retired for a second time in 2002.
She was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a Session member, and served as the church’s financial secretary for more than 20 years. She was an active member of the Naomi Chapter No. 121 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Calhoun for over 40 years. She was also active in the Grand Chapter and held many offices in her local Eastern Star chapter including Worthy Matron and, most recently, secretary - - a role she held from 1987 until January of 2008. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Fort Calhoun Women’s Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lori (Loretta) and Bill Briggs; a brother-in-law, Roland Smith, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Lucille Eggleston; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church building fund; the Masonic Eastern-Star Home for Children in Fremont; or the Shriners Hospital for Children. Sievers-Sprick Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials to the Ft. Calhoun Fire and Rescue and the O.E.S. Home for Kids in Fremont, and Shrine Hospital.
