Rolland “Bud” Holmes

The funeral for Rolland B. “Bud” Holmes, 86, 1506 N. Madison St., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

Holmes died Friday, April 15, 1994 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County.

He was born July 8, 1907 in Cornlea. He moved with his family to Loretto as a child, and in 1924, moved to Kennard, where he graduated from high school in 1928. In 1940, he moved to Arlington and afterward lived at Colome, S.D., Atkinson, Snyder and Bennington, while working as a section foreman with Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for more than 40 years. He moved to Omaha in 1965 and to Fremont in 1967. He retired in November 1970.

Holmes was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont.

He married Lenora Mae Peterson June 11, 1929 in Omaha. She died June 23, 1964. He married Lorraine Pritchard Menking Sept. 81965, in Omaha. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Bernard of Seattle, Roger of Omaha and Larry of Kirkland, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy Hadan of Pflugerville, Texas, and Cynthia Ray of Nickerson; two stepson, the Rev. Stanley Menking of Dallas and George Menking of Santa Fe, N. M. ; three sisters, Blossum Striggow of Kansas City, MO., Beryl Anderson of Fresno, Calif., and Olive Anderson of Friend; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

The Rev. Thomas Martin will officiate Tuesday’s service. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Kennard Cemetery.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Randy Holmes, Tom Holmes, Todd Holmes, Scott Holmes, Kirk Holmes, Jeffrey Hadan, Craig Hadan and Larry Ray.

Keith Menking, Mark Menking and Stewart Menking are honorary pallbearers.
