Thomas A. Serene, 84, of Harrison, died Saturday (May 3, 2003) in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison. He was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Adrian. A veteran, he served in World War II with the Army as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theatre. Mr. Serene was a foreman in the maintenance department of PPG, East Deer Works, retiring in 1982 after 32 years. He was a member of Allegheny Valley Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ford City and was one of the original organizers and coaches of the Ford City Little League. He enjoyed golf, bowling and hunting. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Serene; a son, Don Serene of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Sharon Serene of Honolulu, Hawaii; and a brother, George Serene of Ford City. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Terri Serene of Indianapolis, Ind., Connie Shiplett of Frederick, Md., and Thomas A. Serene; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Shiplett. He was preceded in death by his parents, David A. and Irene Lasher Serene; and a brother, Jack Serene. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Montgomeryville Baptist Church Cemetery, East Franklin, by his son. Arrangements are under the care of SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, Kittanning.
