Tom Woods, 84, of Gatlinburg passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008.
Several nieces, nephews and in-laws live in Henry County.
He was a graduate of Murray State University. Tom loved his beloved wife, Jane, his daughters, Tana, Lisa and Mitzi and their husbands, and his grandchildren, Molly, Katie, Mattie, Woods, Jessica and Jennifer.
Tom always loved and promoted Gatlinburg. He managed the Mountain View Hotel from 1946 until 1985. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed telling you about his "hole in one." Everyone who knew Tom knew how much he loved music and dancing was his second nature. If you met Tom, he was your friend!
He was preceded in death by his parents James E. and Kate Woods; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Martha Woods; brothers-in-law Ray Tidwell, Joe Caldwell and Roy Thrall; and sister-in-law, Anne Collins.
Survivors include his wife Jane Woods; daughters and sons-in-law, Tana and Mike Dohoney, Lisa and Vern Hippensteal and Mitzi and Dale Wilson;
Grandchildren: Molly and Nick Holland, Katie Michlink, Mattie and Chris Rasnake, Woods Hippensteal, Jessica Wilson and Jennifer Wilson;
Extended family members: Doug Michlink, Mattie Thrall, Bill and Ann Caldwell, Frances Tidwell, Bob Collins and Mike Caldwell;
Nieces and nephews: Kay and Larry White, Mack Woods, Bo and Kathy Caldwell, Alfred and Jane Caldwell, Sally and Walt Peterson, Susan and Jerry Brown, Dave and Mentha Tidwell, Melanie and Chuck McFall, Nancy and Merrill Wise, Dan and Janette Collins, Louis and Marylou Caldwell, Cash and Jill Caldwell and Beth Ingram.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic, 312 Prince St., Sevierville 37862.
Serving as pallbearers were Woods Hippensteal, Dale Wilson, Mike Dohoney, Vern Hippensteal, Nick Holland, Will Brown, Chris Rasnake and Doug Michlink.
Honorary pallbearers were Cotton Berrier, Al Blanton, Jim Gerding, Jack Henry, Jack Miller Sr., Clyde Ownby, Johnny Waters and Ed Widmer.
His funeral service was scheduled at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Gatlinburg, with the Revs. Larry Dial, Eric Reiger, Jane Taylor and Eldon Moore and Dr. Vance Eastridge officiating. Burial was to follow in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens in Pigeon Forge.
Visitation was after noon today at the church.
