Betty "Jane" Caldwell Woods, age 88

Daughter of:
Margaret Bowles Caldwell and Alf Caldwell

Wife of:
Thomas O. Woods

She and Tom Woods were instrumental in growing Gatlinburg into a tourist destination.

She attended Murray State University where she met and married Tom Woods. They came to Gatlinburg in 1950 and managed the Mountain View Hotel for 37 years. They were instrumental in the creation of the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce.
Jane was a model in many of Gatlinburg's early travel logs. She was also a model for National Geographic article: "Pack Trip Through the Smokies" October 1952. She opened "The Fair Lady" in 1970, one of the original shops in "The Village". For years they had "Woods Whiskey and Wine" in Windmill Towne.

The Woods have been long-time members of the Gatlinburg Methodist Church.

Survivors:
Three daughters: Tana (Mike) Dohoney, Lisa (Vern) Hippensteal, Mitzi (Dale) Wilson; six grandchildren: Molly (Nick) Holland, Katie (Will) Brown, Mattie (Chris) Rasnake, Woods Hippensteal, Jessica Wilson, and Jennifer Wilson; four great-grandchildren: Adyson Holland, Bella Rasnake, Patrick Holland and Finn Brown; one brother: Mike Caldwell; one sister-in-law: Ann Caldwell and one brother-in-law: Bob Collins.

Predeceased by:
Her parents; her loving husband and dance partner, Tom; two brothers: Joseph and Bill Caldwell; and three sisters: Mattie Thrall, Frances Tidwell and Margaret Ann Collins.

Services:
Funeral service held at 4:00 PM Sunday, April 26, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Gatlinburg with Rev. Dan Moore and Rev. Larry Dial officiating.
