On Dec. 8, 1944, she married Hugh Whitaker, building thirty-one years of family and memories before his death in 1976. Following her years as homemaker, she began a career in the cafeteria of North Lamar Schools, retiring after 20 years. Lucy was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and for many years was active in their quilting guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Chad Sutton, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and her dear friend, Eddie Fox.
Survivors include three children, Philip Whitaker & wife Prue of Paris, Stephen Whitaker of Petty and Risa Sutton & husband David of Big Sandy, grandchildren, Paul Whitaker & wife Jennifer, Terri Larson & husband Levi, Cae Cobb, Jay Crowell & wife Brandi and Luke Sutton & wife Carrie, six great grandchildren along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.
Services are at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Open Air Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery with Dr. Tim Reger officiating. A formal visitation is not scheduled, however, Mrs. Whitaker will lie in repose at the funeral home for those wishing to pay respects.
