Phillip Lewis Daum Passes Away
Phillip Lewis Daum died at the home of his son, John Daum, southwest of this place, Wednesday of last week, aged seventy-three years.
Mr. Daum was born in Franklin County, Penn., in 1839, and came with his parents to Indiana in 1849, locating in Bartholomew County, near Columbus. He was of German parentage, his parents having been born in Hasadonstot, Germany.
He was married to Mary E. Wear in 1861, who preceded him in death nine years ago, since which time he had lived with his only child, John Daum. For several months previous to his death he had been totally blind, yet with all his sufferings he manifested christian fortitude and patience and when he could no longer speak asked that the Lord's Prayer be repeated which his daughter-in-law did.
The remains were taken to Bartholomew County for burial Saturday, services being held in the country church near Columbus, known as St. John's Lutheran Church, with which the deceased united in 1859, serving as a deacon in the church for a number of years.
He is survived by one child, John Daum, of this place, a brother, Peter M. Daum, of Columbus, Ind., and five grandchildren.
