David Daum was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana on the family farm that is now part of Camp Atterberry, Indiana. He joined the Indiana Regiment and served as a soldier in the Civil War. He saw service in Missouri and Mississippi before mustering out in Indiana. The Daum Family donated his civil war letters to the Bartholomew County Historical Society. The Daum Family retains the Spenser Rifle he brought home from the War.
