She emigrated to America in 1875, along with her husband and family, arriving in the Port of New York on 3 May 1875 on the S.S. Main from Bremen, Germany.
Margaretha's half-brother, Henry Husmann is also buried alongside this group of stones for Heinrich Sander's family.
Lena Husmann Sander was reportedly an illegitimate daughter of Margaretha, born prior to her marriage to Heinrich Sander.
There is some uncertainty about the accuracy of the death date inscribed on her gravestone, because the 1900 Federal Census lists "Magi, age 50, born June 1849 Germany" as the wife of Henry Sander. The birth year (1849) also disagrees with the gravestone inscription, but the census further indicates she had 7 children (3 living), which agrees with what we know about her and Henry's family. If any descendants can shed some light on this question, please contact me.
