Funeral services for J. Harvey West, who died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night of last week at Mercy hospital, were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Sidney Church of Christ, with Oscar Scarce of Ridgefarm, a former pastor of the Sidney church, officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Mr. West suffered a heart attack that morning and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He had been in failing health for the past several years, but his condition had not been regarded as serious.
Mr. West spent all his life near Sidney, having been born August 3, 1884, on a farm about two miles northeast of Sidney, a son of James M. and Mahala Anderson West. He was united in marriage to Ruby Rogers on January 18, 1909.
Mr. West received his education in the rural and Sidney high school and also attended the University of Illinois. He was engaged in farming for many years and later operated a machine shop two miles east of Sidney.
He had long been a member of the Sidney Church of Christ and was very active in church work. He was an elder of the church.
Surviving are the widow and six daughters, Mrs. A. B. Clark, Homer; Mrs. Shelby Horner, Paxton; Mrs. Milosh Muntyan, Lansing, Mich.; Mrs. Paul Rector, Champaign; Mrs. Donald Brown, Rockville, Ind.; Mrs. Franklin Kibler, Sidney; 13 grandchildren and one brother, Clyde of Sidney. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one daughter.
