Mrs. Julia T Allen Turner.
On Wednesday afternoon of this week
the whole village of Cato was greatly shocked
and saddened to receive the news that
Mrs. Julia Turner, a life long resident
of this village, had met a sudden death
by falling from a second story window,
in her room at The Home on Grant Ave
at Auburn. Later news and other facts
which came to light revealed the truth
that it was the result of a mania to end
her life.
For years Mrs. Turner has been a
great mental sufferer at times, and this
suffering was greatly augmented by the
loss of her home by fire at the time the
Central Hotel burned. About June 1st
this year she decided to enter The Home
in Auburn; and her family thought a
change and removal from the scene of
her trouble might have a good influence
on her mind. This, however, did not
prove to be so and in a spell of great
mental excitement she did the rash act.
Mrs. Turner was naturally a high
spirited, social, genial nature and always
welcomed in society as a good companion
and entertainer. It has-been a great
grief to her friends to see the change in
her spirits which the work of her disease
has wrought, although no one considered
her mentally irresponsible 'till this sad
occurrence.
She leaves two sisters,
Martha J. Allen and Maria A. Waggoner,
and also a large number of relatives,
consisting of nieces, nephews, and
cousins, who will mourn her loss but
who must leave it to "Him who knoweth
our frame and remembereth that we are
but dust."
The funeral was held from the home
of a niece, Mrs. Frank Casey, at two
o'clock Friday, Rev. Mr. Cleveland of
the Church of Christ officiating.
She was a member of Cato Star Chapter
No. 284 0 . E. S., the members of
which attended in a body. She had
made all the arrangements in case of
her death and everything was carried
out according to her wishes.
