Schenectady, Nov. 4. — Hicks W. Sheldon, who recently passed away at his home in Delanson, was well known throughout the county and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all. In 1870 Mr. Sheldon purchased considerable property along the line of the Albany & Susquehanna Railroad, at a place then called Quaker Street Depot, there being at that time only a small station and freight house. Through his activity and enterprise others were led to purchase property and erect residences until to-day the village, of which he was the recognized founder, contains several stores and places of business as well as a large number of substantial and beautiful residences. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Barton Sheldon, and three sons, James Clark, Jacob J., and Embra R. Sheldon. At the funeral two great-grandchildren were present. He was recognized everywhere as a man of sterling honesty and sound business judgment, and was one of the men upon whom the community depended for assistance and support in all public enterprises.
