President for Smith College, Educator and Clergyman. Being the youngest child to Seth Seelye, and Abigail Taylor. He attended Union College and graduated with high honors as valedictorian and a B.A. degree. He also attended Heidelberg and after graduation in 1862 soon began being a minister. It was during that time he also met his wife Henrietta Chapin and they had seven children. He later after health issues took a position for Amherst College teaching English literature for about ten years. When he was then asked to be the first president for Smith College, he was inaugurated on July 4, 1875. He improved the college and added lots of faculty and by the time he had expanded the students population from about fourteen to sixteen hundred. Served as president during the years 1873 upon its founding through 1910 when he retired. The school's main building is also named in is honor, Seeyle Hall.
