Services for Earl W. Nelson, 83 of Arlington, Nebraska, who died May 6, 1992 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska were Friday, May 8 at Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle, Nebraska. Rev. Scott Postlewait officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the members of the Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post.

Earl W. Nelson was born January 4, 1909 in Stomsburg, Nebraska. He grew up there and lived in Oregon for a short time before serving with the United States Army during World War II from July, 1940 through June, 1945 in New Guinea and the South Philippines.

He worked for Chicago & Northwestern Railroad until 1950. He then worked for the city of Arlington, NE for nine years and for Consolidated Blenders in Fremont, NE until retiring in 1974.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle, Fremont Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 200, Retired Eagles Activity Club, Arlington Saddle Club, Outriders Saddle Club and was commander, member and past commander of Arlington VFW Post No 8332, post district commander of the VFW and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 71.

He married Anita Holtman December 19, 1948 in Fontanelle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary (Fellows) Nelson; a twin brother, Elmer; another brother, Kenneth and four sisters, Maude Nelson, Nettie Maiker, Mary Lounsberry and Myrtle Boatwright.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Anita; three sisters, Eva Stoko of Stromsburg, Nebraska; Elsie (Mrs. Orrin) Skinner of Redlands, California and Dorlene (Mrs. Leonard) Murray of Arlington, Nebraska.

Honorary pallbearers were Carl Schroeder, Merlin Magill, Bill Taylor, Lloyd Luce, William Kubik and Ernest Ringle. Pallbearers were Art Heese, Dan Anthony, Gary Timm, Gary Steckelberg, Harold Meyer and August Lallman.

Ester Langhorst was organist, Nick Janssen was soloist.

A memorial has been established to the church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
