Nila Jean was born in Blair, Nebraska on November 5, 1927 to Neal and Selma (Andersen) Thompson. She attended Blair High School, graduating in 1945.
On June 8, 1947, she married Marlin R. Matzen at the Lutheran Church in Kennard, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children: Deborah, Jeffrey and Bradley.
Nila and Marlin made their home in Blair, Nebraska. Nila worked in the Blair Schools in the lunch program and at Dana College in the Cafeteria. She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church, now known as Hillside Christian. Nila enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Nila Jean (Thompson) Matzen, age 91 of Blair, Nebraska, passed away May 15, 2019 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Nila was preceded in death by her husband Marlin, son Jeffrey, her parents, siblings: Harley “HV”, Lowell “LD” and Elton “ET”, also Mildred Wallace and Alice Madsen.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Deborah (Larry) Blaydes and Bradley (Angie) Matzen; sister Gloria Jensen; sisters-in-law Judy Thompson of Blair and Arelene Thompson; grandchildren: Kyle (Vanessa) Matzen, Ryan Matzen and Jenna Matzen; great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Eliyahu and Yosef.
Services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Hillside Christian Church in Blair. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM.
