Alfred was the son of George W. and Martha I. (Mills) Henshilwood. He was a twin of his sister Ella and had other siblings named Ray, Fred, Mildred and Thomas.

Alfred married 3 times. The first marriage was to Delores McPherson and it ended in divorce. The second marriage was to Laura Richards Ferguson on November 16, 1945 and the third time to Anna K. Jones.

Delores McPherson remarried and became Delores Davis. She died June 6, 1987 and is buried at Washington Park East Cemetery. Laura, who is buried beside him, died on September 20, 1977. Anna K. Henshilwood died on December 8, 2000 and had been living in Georgia at the time of her death.

Alfred's last residence was in Clayton, Indiana.

Alfred James Henshilwood, 84, Clayton, died March 11. He had worked at International Harvester Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Plainfield Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite [Indianapolis]. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hendricks County Animal Shelter. Services: 11 a.m. March 15 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with calling from 2 to 6 p.m. March 14. Burial: Center Valley Cemetery, Clayton. He was the widower of Laura Henshilwood. Survivors: children, Mike, Steven, Bill Henshilwood, Joyce A. Hoemann, Marsha McQueeney, Sharon Kirk, Martha Talbott; stepchildren, Walter Ferguson, Sue Schroder, Janice Cherry; sister, Mildred Butcher; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Clayton - Alfred James Henshilwood, 84, died March 11 at Hendricks Community Hospital, Danville. He was born October 10, 1914 to George W. and Martha (Mills) Henshilwood. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Henshilwood. He worked in the truck motor division of International Harvester for 37 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of VFW, Brazil; charter member of Plainfield Eagles; member of Masonic Lodge, Plainfield; American Legion, Brazil; and Scottish Rite, Indianapolis. He served in the US Army during WWII. Survivors include three sons, Mike Henshilwood of Plainfield, Steven Henshilwood of Clayton and Bill Henshilwood of Tennessee; four daughters, Joyce Hofmann of Greenwood, Marsha McQueeney of Speedway, Sharon Kirk of Fairfax, Virginia, and Martha Talbott of Indianapolis; one sister, Mildred Butcher of Beech Grove; two stepdaughters, Janice Cherry of Pittsboro and Sue Schroeder of Indianapolis; one stepson, Walter Ferguson of Hazelwood; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
