OBITUARY
Prater--Ellen, daughter of John and Katherine McGuire, was born near Hamlin, Brown county, Kans., July 25, 1867, died at her home in Hamlin, Sept. 8, 1935[sic], at the age of 71 years, 1 months, 13 days. She was married to Charles Prater, Nov. 8, 1887. They established a home near Hamlin, with the exception of a short time they resided in Falls City. She spent her entire life in Brown county. She united with the Pony Creek Brethren church in Sept., 1888, later transferred her membership to the Hamlin church. She was a charter member of Hamlin Chapter of the Eastern Star, served as treasurer for a number of years. She leaves, besides her husband one daughter, Mrs. Louis Ebel, of Falls City, Nebr., 2 grandsons, Robert, Wilfred Ebel, two sisters, Mrs. C. W. Berkley, of Shenandoah, Ia., Mrs. Alice Brigham, of Padonia, one brother, Charles McGuire, of Morrill, a number of relatives, a large circle of friends who will sadly miss her. Funeral services were held at the Brethren church Thursday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. A. Myers, of Morrill, assisted by Rev. N. J. Lewis, of Hamlin. Mrs. N. G. Hamilton, R. C. Berkley accompanied by Mrs. N. J. Lewis, sang "No Night There," "Face to Face," "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Body bearers were Dan Pfeiffer, James McKim, J. L. Sherrer, Harry Pfeiffer, B. M. Berkley, Elmer Hoffman. Burial in Hamlin cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
