Ellen was the daughter of John Martin Raines (1829 – 1882) and Ellafair Anne Braddy Raines (1830-1887) of Washington County, GA just north of Wrightsville.
Ellen was married to Henry R Maddox whom she married about 1894. Little is known about Ellen, however one of the family members who remembers Ellen indicated that she recalls her as an elderly woman who always wore a bonnet and smoked a corn cobb pipe. Her real first name was Nancy but a couple of sources indicate that she preferred to be known by her middle name of Ellen. Ellen and Henry had no known children.
