William was the son of John Martin Raines (1829 – 1882) and Ellafair Anne Braddy Raines (1830-1887) of Washington County, GA just north of Wrightsville.

William Jordan Raines married Belle Maddox on May 22, 1880.

William Jordan was the father of:
Martin Luther Raines (1887 - 1959).
Lenora "Linnie" Raines (1889 - 1979).
Maggie "Mazie" Belle Raines (1893 - 1910).
William Ollie Raines (1897 - 1978).

William Jordan Raines had the following brothers and sisters:
