Zola V Whitfield Yankie was the first born child of Cebren William (Coot) Whitfield and Martha Jane Franklin who married in McLennan County in 1892. Grandmother Zola eloped at the age of 16 with her beloved Grover Leo Yankie who spirited her away in a buckboard with the help of his good pals Gilbert Lafayette Maury and Lawson Snyder "Snide" Sapp. They married on 22 Nov 1909 in Meridian, Bosque County, Texas.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of China Spring for many years, previously a member of Erath Baptist Church. (Information provided by her adoring granddaughter and Little Shadow, Nancy Yankie, daughter of H. A "Boots" and Opal Anderson Yankie.)
