Mrs. L. Burrows Dies in Stockton
Mrs. Lena Burrows, 93, of Stockton, mother of Marion Burrows of Chrome and former teacher in the Newville area, died early this morning.
Mrs. Burrows was born in Kentucky, Nov. 14, 1873, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Owen, brought her to California as an infant. She spent her early life in Butte City. She attended Chico Normal School and remembered General Bidwell, who gave the land on which the school was built.
Later she was teacher at the Westside school on the old Conklin Ranch west of Newville and also taught in Chrome.
She was married in 1899 to the late Ancil Burrows, and the couple had four children, two of whom survive, Marion of Chrome and a daughter, Beatrice Burrows of Stockton. Other survivors are two grandchildren, Robert Burrows of Orland and Glenice Villarreal of San Jose, and four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Burrows was a member of the Christian Church. Funeral services will be held in the F.D. Sweet and Son chapel here Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Chrome. – Transcribed by M.

RITES SET IN ORLAND
ORLAND – Funeral services will conducted tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the F.D. Sweet and Son chapel, Orland for Mrs. Lena May Burrows, who died Monday in the Hill Haven convalescent Hospital in Stockton.
Mrs. Burrows, born Nov. 14, 1873, in Kentucky, migrated to the Butte City area as an infant with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Owen.
She was one of the earliest graduates of the Normal School in Chico, now Chico State College. She taught school in the western part of Glenn County.
In 1899, she married Ancil Burrows of Chrome. The couple resided on a ranch in the Chrome area until Mr. Burrows [sic] death in 1941.
Mrs. Burrows was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Burrows of Stockton; a son, Marion Burrows of Chrome, with whom she made her home until recently; a granddaughter, Mrs. Glenice Villarreal of San Jose; grandson, Robert Burrows of Orland, and four great grandchildren.
Rev. Lewis Mick of the First Christian Church will conduct the final rites. Interment will follow in the Millsaps Cemetery in Chrome. – Transcribed by M.
